ハードウッド製のジョイントペンシルベイト。それは、ある種の奇妙な沈黙を湛えてそこに存在している。その名を「マイクロ」というからには、指先でつまめるほどの儚さを想像するかもしれない。だが、どうだろう。秤に乗せれば16グラム。それは、ごく普通のタックルで、ごく普通に、水面へと解き放つことのできる、ささやかな重さなのだ。シェイコヒップと比べてみても、その存在感が、じんわりと、だが確かに伝わってくるだろう。

このルアーは、去年の七色ダムで開かれた、とあるオフ会の、ごく私的な企みから生まれた。しかし、水という名の広大なキャンバスの上で、驚くほど自然に、そして多くを語らずとも獲物を誘う姿を見て、我々は、これを限定された世界のままで終わらせるわけにはいかないと悟ったのだ。だから、レギュラーラインナップへと昇格させることとなった。去年は急ぎ足のテストだったが、今回は幾度となくプロトタイプを作り、夜が明けるまで、その挙動の一つ一つを、まるで哲学書を読むように、丹念に、そして深く、煮詰めていった。

ペンシルベイトとしての、その本質。それは疑いようもなく、ターンという行為の中にある。前後のボディがかすかに触れ合い、微かな干渉音を奏でる。それは、夜更けの古い時計が時を刻む音にも似て、だが次の瞬間には、鋭角なナイフのように水面を切り裂く。あるいは、少し早めにハンドルを回してみるのもいい。すると、水面に背中をわずかに覗かせながら、まるで秘密を抱えた蛇のように、ゆるやかなS字を描いて泳ぎ始めるだろう。

そして、とっておきの方法がある。リールのハンドルを、意識的に、しかし無造作に、半回転ほど強めに巻く。世間ではそれを「デジ巻き」と呼ぶらしい。すると、ルアーはまるで何かに突き動かされたかのように、予測不能な方向へ、唐突に水中に身を投げる。その一瞬の唐突さが、水底に潜む、眠れる意識を揺り起こすのだ。

ダム湖でも、沼の静寂の中でも、あるいは、遠い記憶の中にあるような野池でも、はたまた、空に近い山上湖の澄んだ水面でも。このルアーは、ただ静かに、あなたの手の中に存在する。お好きな場所で、お好きなように。使い方は、あなたの想像力に委ねられている。

A strange silence clings to this hardwood jointed pencil bait. Its name, "Micro," might lead one to imagine something fragile, an object so small it could be pinched between your fingertips. Yet, when placed on a scale, it weighs 16 grams. That's a modest weight, easy enough to deploy upon the water's surface with ordinary tackle. Even compared to a Shako Hip, its presence is subtle yet undeniably there.

This lure was born from a private undertaking at a gathering held at Nanairo Dam last year. But seeing it lure prey so surprisingly naturally and silently on the vast canvas of water, we realized it couldn't be confined to that small, exclusive world. It was thus elevated to the status of a regular offering. Last year's testing was hasty, but this time we created numerous prototypes, meticulously, deeply, refining its every nuance of behavior, often until dawn, as if we were reading a philosophy book.

The true essence of this pencil bait, beyond any doubt, resides in its turn. The front and back bodies gently touch, creating a subtle, almost imperceptible hum of contact. It sounds like the ticking of an old clock late at night, but the next moment, it cuts through the water's surface like a sharp knife. Alternatively, try turning the reel a touch sooner. It will peek its back out of the water and begin to swim in a gentle S-shape, like a snake harboring a secret.

And then, there is a particular method, a secret, if you will. Take the reel handle and, with a conscious yet almost casual effort, turn it firmly, perhaps a half rotation. They call this "digital winding," or so I've heard. Then, as if driven by something, the lure suddenly plunges into the water in an unpredictable direction. That sudden, unexpected moment awakens a sleeping consciousness lurking beneath the water.

Whether it's a dam lake, the still depths of a swamp, a forgotten pond, a relic of some distant memory, or a mountain lake whose surface reflects the vast, indifferent sky. This lure simply exists quietly in your hand. Wherever you choose, however you wish. Its deployment is entirely an affair of your own imagination.
