ハードウッド製の、ある種のカエルめいたプラグ。それは、水面という名の無限の物語の中に、ひっそりと、しかし確かにその姿を現した。

私にとって、フグロッグは、あたかも呼吸のような、欠かせない存在になっていた。その軽やかさ、水面に描く繊細な軌跡は、ある種の瞑想にも似て、私を水辺の深みへと誘った。しかし、その軽やかさが、時に水面との間に、わずかな、しかし決定的な距離を生んでしまう者がいることも、私は知っていた。だから、その輪郭を、少しだけ大きくしたのだ。「マイクロ」の系譜を継ぎながらも、その名を「バルキーフグロッグ」としたのは、そうした理由からだ。12グラム。それは、ごく普通のタックルで、ごく普通に、水面へと解き放つことのできる、ささやかな重さなのだ。

大きくしたもう一つの理由は、アカガエルという生き物が、私たちが漠然と抱いているイメージよりも、少しばかり大きい、という、ある種の真理に行き着いたからかもしれない。もちろん、水辺にアカガエルの姿が見えなくとも、このプラグは関係なく獲物を誘うだろう。それは、カエルという存在が、私たちの意識の深い場所で、ある種の普遍的な意味を帯びているからに他ならない。だから、安心して、水面へと投げ込んでみてほしい。

バルサ製のフグロッグは、使い込むほどに、まるで古い写真のように、その角をすり減らしていく。それもまた、一つの物語ではあるのだが、このバルキーフグロッグは、もう少しだけ、頑丈に作られている。ハードウッドの芯が、水中のあらゆる理不尽な抵抗にも、静かに耐え抜くだろう。

その重さは、木の枝にぶら下げる、という、ある種の気ままな遊びを難しくしたかもしれない。だが、新しく削り出されたその顎は、水面に浮かぶウッドチップやウキクサ、あるいは古びた木の枝といったあらゆる障害物を、まるで何事もなかったかのように、静かに乗り越えていく。それは、重さがもたらす、ある種の知恵とでも呼べるものだ。

A hardwood plug, a frog of sorts, quietly yet surely manifested itself within the infinite narrative of the water's surface.

To me, the Fugrog had become as indispensable as breathing itself. Its lightness, the delicate trail it inscribed upon the water's surface, drew me into the deeper reaches of the water's edge, akin to a form of meditation. Yet, I knew that for some, this very lightness could, at times, create a subtle but crucial disconnect between them and the water. This led me to slightly enlarge its outline; hence, while it follows in the footsteps of the "Micro" series, I named it the "Bulky Fugrog." Twelve grams. It's a modest weight, one that can be effortlessly cast upon the water with ordinary tackle.

Another reason for its larger form might stem from the realization of a certain truth: that the Japanese red frog is, in fact, a little more substantial than the vague image we often hold of it. Of course, even in the absence of red-legged frogs near the water, this plug will undoubtedly attract its quarry. This is because, deep within our collective consciousness, frogs possess a certain universal resonance. So, please, cast it into the water without hesitation.

While a balsa Fugrog, with prolonged use, will show its wear, its edges softening like an old photograph – a story in itself – this Bulky Fugrog is constructed to be considerably more robust. Its hardwood core will quietly endure all manner of unforeseen resistances beneath the surface.

Its increased weight may preclude the carefree amusement of dangling it from tree branches. However, its newly sculpted jaw adeptly navigates any floating obstacles—be they wood chips, duckweed, or aged branches—gliding over them as if they barely existed. You might call it a kind of wisdom bestowed by weight.

Three distinct hues are available. The Brown Frog blends seamlessly into scenes of scattered wood chips or an aged, earthy landscape. Where the green of duckweed intertwines with the shadows of weeds, the psychedelic Parrot color paints a kind of vivid illusion upon the water's surface. And then there's the Red and Gold Frog, a metallic-based fusion of red and gold, a somewhat luxurious coloration bestowed upon the creature.

This Bulky Fugrog, whether in your hand or upon the vast canvas known as the water's surface, will quietly, and with few words, begin to weave your own unique story.
